True Strength

[gallery]

I often forget how strong she is. Her little frame conceals power and agility beyond her years.

I also forget that she can be scared. That there are times that she cannot keep the brave and happy face she almost always has.

We tried to let her lay down on her own, but she wanted nothing to do with it. She ignored the beautiful scenery on the walls, the shimmering lights on the ceiling, and wanted to leave. I held her hand as they took the images that were needed. My heart, breaking with each scream from her for it to stop.

Only stepping away for a moment for this picture when it was over. As soon as she was free, she left into my arms and kissed me on the cheek. My heart instantly filled back up and whole.

Now the wait for a call about what will happen. What the rest of our week will look like. I just hope my heart beats a little more often between now and then. (at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU)
