It is good to start the day off in deep thought, no?

“Being famous is very different from being a hero” – Brad Meltzer– opening keynote from #dad2summit

There was a definite vibration throughout the room pulsingwith the ebb and flow of the conversations taking place. Deep, loud laughterpopped alive above it all, from various locations. As the lights dimmed thecrowd was hushed. A man slowly walked up the steps and took his place behindthe lectern.

As if the moments leading up to the opening keynote were notenough, the opening remarks from Doug French further showed his passion for theDad 2.0 Summit.  The reading from one ofthe bloggers was deep and hit home across so many issues.  Then the keynote speaker, Brad Meltzer, tookthe stage… and ran with it.

He hit us squarely in the chest with hard questions aboutwhat kind of legacy we are leaving. Forcing us to realize that it is not in ourworks… it is in our children that our legacy will be found.  Our children will carry our banner long afterour days, and it is important to ask what we are doing to ensure that there isweight to that banner, and that they can carry it.  There were rails of laughter, and momentswhere we sat in silence pondering all that was being said.  It was impressive to see the effect thatMeltzer’s speech had on all of us.  Howit compounded the remarks from French, and the blog post. I am now zeroed in onwhat kind of legacy I hope to leave behind, and I will do my very best to makesure that my children can carry it.

I AM A CRANIO DAD, I am scared out of my mind and they willoutshine my legacy too… and I am more than ok with that.
