Throughout my 32 years of life, I have come to realize that there are a myriad of amazing ways that a day could start.  A cup of coffee and the local newspaper is one that seems to persist through the years and seems to be ever so relaxing.  There is productive start of a day, waking up and making a huge breakfast for my family, and watching them all wake up to the amazing smells of pancakes, bacon, and toast as they waft down the halls in the early dawn. There is the peaceful morning walk in the chilly fall morning fog with my brilliant border collie.  Even the fun, unexpected snuggles with my beloved bride and children as the sun is barely up.  Any and all of these are great, amazing ways to start a day. 

Today, however, life had a different plan.  Even with all that my darling daughter has been through, I am always surprised at the things that we sometimes have to go through.  I say ‘we’ because even though, ultimately, it is my darling daughter going through the brunt of it, in this family… we are in this together.  This morning’s preparation for the day, life decided that it should be fun to have it start with a couple of phone calls to one of my daughters amazing doctors, pensively waiting for a call back with instructions, a call to a pharmacy, and rushing to pick some items up.  No day should ever have to start with using a pediatric enema on your 19 month old daughter, and then holding her as she evacuates three days of waste. No, I think days should NEVER start like this.

However, as always, my daughter’s doctors are fantastic.  The pharmacist was amazing (holding the enema and even getting a bottle of pear juice, pre-ringing it up, hand having it ready when I walked in).  My beloved bride was strong through the visible discomfort as I introduced the enema and held my darling daughter.  My super son, who is a sweet 8 days old today, resigned to sleeping through the entire ordeal.  Last but not least, my darling daughter.  She is so fantastically strong and though she was in great discomfort, she handled it amazingly well.  Is it wrong to draw inspiration from your toddler?  Well, as a cranio dad, I do.
